What does it take to be a successful entrepreneur? Qualities such as risk-taking, creativity, and a nonstop work ethic come to mind, but what about the practical and theoretical knowledge that comes with earning an M.B.A.?
A growing number of business-school students are realizing the value of entrepreneurial thinking, and it’s no surprise that entrepreneurship programs have been proliferating among top business schools across the United States. These programs offer ideal environments for entrepreneurs to formulate their business plans, create products, and even obtain start-up funding. A recent survey by Inc. magazine found that nine out of ten experienced business professionals would recommend an M.B.A. program for aspiring entrepreneurs. Here’s what you can do by earning an M.B.A.
Network with other innovative thinkers
Business school is a rich resource for fresh and innovative ideas. For future entrepreneurs, this means that you’ll be surrounded by like-minded individuals and even potential business partners. Schools often invite CEOs to speak about their careers and give their insight. Find inspiration from your peers, and learn from the mistakes of seasoned business starters who have been through it all.
Find top entrepreneurial programs
Whatever your career fancy may be, it’s important to find an entrepreneurship program that’s in line with your specific interests and level of experience. There’s a lot out there! To help you get started, The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine surveyed more than 700 undergraduate and business schools about their offerings in entrepreneurship to identify top programs.
The survey included questions covering everything from mentoring, experiential learning, and specific course offerings to alumni successes and career prospects of current students. Schools that ranked high demonstrated a commitment to entrepreneurship both inside and outside the classroom and had faculty, students, and alumni actively involved and successful in entrepreneurial endeavors.
The top ten business schools for entrepreneurship are:
1. Syracuse University
2. DePaul University
3. Northwestern University
4. California State University–San Bernardino
5. University of Washington
6. University of Arizona
7. Temple University
8. Monterey Institute of International Studies
